Suggested tool/parts kit to carry on rides
Suggested tool/parts to have at home:
- Metric hex key set full-size - Pedro's or
Bhondus (part 10999)
- Metrix hex key set foldable - get the full metal versions like these
for small sizes or
for big sizes
plastic and resin ones don't have the same oomph
- Screwdrivers - Pedro's or Stanley
- Large adjustable wrench - Park Tool gets this one
- Vise Grips still makes the best locking pliers
- Regular pliers
- Cable and housing cutter - Shimano takes this one hands down
- Hammer - choose an 18-24oz clawtooth with a smooth, flat head
- Spoke wrenches for all your wheels
- Wrenches for your specific bikes
- Cleaning kit: small version or
big version
- Chemicals: lubes, cleaners, etc.
- Electrical tape, duct tape, zip ties
- Scissors (get the industrial EMT shears, they're good for just about anything)
What does a pro mechanic have? I have a pretty accurate list of my
tools, albeit terribly organized and jumbled. You can
link to
them here. I keep all my tool kits separate from each other
(no stealing from one kit for another). Not listed is the Fitting Tool Kit.
