Extended Service Plan Restrictions

OVERVIEW

Legalese, whoopie! These Plans attempt to cover, to varying degrees, labor for all normal and maybe not-so-normal wear and tear items, repairs, replacement of worn parts, and more. Simply, I try to cover labor costs on anything that is still under the manufacturers warranty while your bike is enrolled in any Plan...there are exceptions here and there but this is a good starting point.

One notable exception is frame replacement. This will likely incur an additional charge but every effort will be made to minimize it. In reality, all new frames that leave my shop receive a Frame Preparation to start and will be billed according to the Plan's pricing structure.

GENERAL GUIDELINES

  1. These Plans are for standard or traditional bicycles (road, cyclocross, time trial). Additional charges may apply to tandems, hard-core mountain bikes, and others due to their special requirements.
  2. Extended Service Plans are always sold at full price, no discounts of any type for any reason allowed.
  3. Prices do not include parts, they are for labor only.
  4. The Extended Service Plan (Plan) is owned by someone or something (Owner).
  5. The Owner may use the plan on any Qualifying Bicycle.
  6. The initial bike is called the First Bike. The current bike on the Plan at any given time is simply called the Bike.
  7. Only one Bike per Plan at a time but Transfers are allowed in most Plans.
  8. All services rendered under a Plan are for the Bike.
  9. Initial and ongoing services are clearly detailed for each Plan. Free services included in some Plans only apply to the First Bike's initial visit.
  10. Discounts and labor provided under a Plan for a Bike are for repairs to essential components (i.e. not accessories) to ensure the Bike is rideable and safe. Upgrading or switching parts may not always be essential.
  11. Home Mechanics: You can work on your own Bike, it is your Bike (cleaning highly encouraged). Be forewarned: Fixing any misadjustments, un-doing and re-doing shoddy work, and equipment changes (new components or accessories) are not free labor or guarantees covered under any Plan, they are discounted labor. Any changes may void the Plan for that particular item or service.
  12. One glaring exception to the "I don't charge more for installing parts purchased elsewhere" rule: if you acquire parts elsewhere to use on your Bike while it is enrolled in any Plan, your regular labor discount will apply to install or service them. I cannot be responsible for parts that I don't supply or recommend and may not be able to use them. Please ask first to avoid any confusion.

QUALIFYING BICYCLES

Yes, there is catch, but not like that. All Bikes that are enrolled in a Plan must be a Qualifying Bicycle. What is a Qualifying Bicycle? If your bike doesn't cost over $12,000 you'll have to take it elsewhere. No, just kidding, I'm a service snob, not a bike snob.

Seriously, they aren't department store bikes and most likely aren't kids' bikes. Low-end bikes may not be worth a Plan but that's your decision. Electric bikes are not serviced at this time but I am open to new opportunities. We'll have to talk about tandems, some of the hard-core ATB stuff, trikes, scooters, wheelchairs, and other non-motorized wheeled travel.

DISCOUNTS

Discounts only apply to work, parts, or services that I supply. Discounts are to be taken off the MSRP or regular price. No double discounts, discounts on sale items, or otherwise prohibited discounts, the greatest singular discount shall apply. No refunds, credits, reimbursements, or exchanges for parts or services purchased elsewhere.

* Labor - Service on or for current Program Bike with labor that I supply (normal labor discount applies for parts that you supply)

* Rental - Rent one of my bikes during repair of your current Program Bike (i.e. when waiting for parts), or maybe it's just easier to lend you a bike for a ride

* Repair Parts - For current Program Bike (repair parts, not upgrade parts, that I supply)

* Mileage - For my mobile repair services (delivery, pickups, other) of current Program Bike; this discount does not apply to food, tolls, ferries, hotels, incidentals, etc.; mileage fees only

ADD-ONS

Services like Consumer Assembly, Race Assembly, Overhaul, Hand-Built Wheels, and Cleaning are available for a reduced upcharge depending on the level of the Plan. This is for labor only, all parts are extra. Any service listed in this section may be added at any time to any current Program Bike for the listed charge. Remember, the Transfer Fee applies if Plan is switched to another Bike but knock yourself out.

Some of the more advanced Plans can really bring peace of mind for yourself and your bike. Since there are oodles of services I offer these are just a few examples of the savings of the most common Add-Ons, ask for anything you may desire.

TRANSFER FEE

A charge assessed each time the Plan is switched to another Qualifying Bike. Any time the Plan is switched, the Tranfer Fee applies even if the Additional Bike was previously enrolled in the Plan. The new Program Bike must be presented in person upon which it will be documented and given at least a Tune-Up with some light cleaning to ensure proper functioning.

Transfer to another Qualifying Bike as many times as you want during the duration of the Plan, just pay the Transfer Fee each time. Sorry Bronze Plan, no Transfers. The Bike can be a friend's, family member's, friend of a friend,...anyone's you want! Bring what you gots or what someone else gots (let this one slide, Grammar Police)!

FREE SERVICES

Some of the more advanced Plans offer free services for the First Bike's initial visit. These are only a one-time deal for the first service appointment on the First Bike. In certain cases, these free services may be delayed and/or used on an Additional Bike, we can discuss this. For instance, free labor for a Hand-Built Custom Wheelset in the Diamond Plan - do some research, ask some questions, you have two years to decide. I want to make it as seamless and beneficial as possible.

CLEANING

Some Plans include free cleaning as part of the ongoing service. Cleaning is a privilege when the Bike is serviced. The Plans do not cover cleaning for the sake of cleaning, i.e. Bikes can't be dropped off specifically for cleaning unless the upcharge for cleaning is paid for that visit. If you don't want to deal with a messy Bike then opt for the cleaning upcharge. If it's too dirty for your Plan's cleaning level to adequately clean it then you may be required to clean it or pay a small cleaning charge. Please respect your time and mine and don't abuse the system.

EXPEDITED SCHEDULING

Provided the parts are in stock and I'm available (i.e. not away for a weekend working at a race), you will be guaranteed a turnaround on the Program Bike within the specified time unless a serious situation presents itself that was not anticipated nor foreseen.

Of course, I must have the Program Bike before the countdown begins, a simple phone call will secure a time slot. Service and labor will not cause a delay, you'll get those in ample quantities and immediately so. Ordering parts may delay the process but some clever scheduling would minimize this. You'll be on a bike one way or another without undue haste.

UPGRADING A PLAN

Any Plan may be Upgraded to any higher Plan within 30 days by paying the difference between the Plans and an Upgrade Fee. The Upgrade Fee will be based on many factors, the primary one is the work performed on the Bike during its first visit compared to work that will have to be performed under the new Plan. The enrollment date remains the same so any time used on the first Plan is deducted from the new Plan.

Only one Upgrade per original Plan and that Upgrade must be made within 30 days. No discounts or refunds for services or parts already rendered. Initial services may be adjusted to reflect the Upgraded Plan. Services provided under the new Plan will be defined by the current offerings for that particular Plan on the day of the Upgrade.

Plan Downgrades are not allowed at this time.

DURATION

You may purchase a Plan and hold it for up to one year, unusued, to be applied to the appropriate Bike. The Plan begins when the First Bike is brought in for its initial visit and expires the specified amount of time later. Or it automatically begins one year from purchase date and expires accordingly. No extensions, delays, or other increases in time once the ticker starts.

EXTENDING A PLAN

Not available at this time, your suggestions are appreciated, keep looking for updates!

COST

All Extended Service Plans are sold at full price. There are no discounts, rebates, reimbursements, or refunds. When purchasing a Plan, your payment guarantees the services will not change for the duration of the Plan (i.e. if a specification changes in future versions, your services will remain unaffected). Since there can be up to a one year delay before bringing in the Bike for its initial visit to "activate" the Plan, your services still won't change, it's all based on your purchase date.

DOCUMENTATION

Each Bike enrolled in a Plan will be fully documented with an Assessment. This includes serial numbers, condition, ergonomics, components, accessories, etc. The Plan will cover the components listed on this documentation sheet as they are installed on the Bike. Any changes or adjustments to the equipment may void the Plan for that particular item or service. This is for your safety as well as ensuring I provide the best possible service.

NOTES

The wise and frugal consumer will find many ways to squeeze every last bit of value from any of these Plans. It never hurts to ask, any Plan entitles the owner to a certain amount of leeway when requesting any service.
