Assessment, Crash Inspections, & Estimates

Assessment, Inspection, and Estimates Description

OVERVIEW

Bring in your bicycle to have an Assessment! You may be new to my store or philosophy of how bikes are built and need some guidance.

This is a relatively thorough safety check that will determine the functionality of all systems on the bike. Which ones need immediate work, which ones are likely to need future work, the condition even if they are OK. It also serves as an estimate for insurance reasons, repairs, replacement, etc. This will not service the bike but will inspect it after a good cleaning reveals its secrets. So, aside from the cleaning, it will be in exactly the same condition as when it came in. This process takes about 30 minutes.

HIGHLIGHTS

* No fixing or repairs, only observations and measurements
* Service file begun - owner and bicycle identification information
* Simple Cleaning to get a closer look
* All major systems of bike are safety checked
1. Braking and shifting systems
2. Bearings: hubs, headset, bottom bracket
3. Drivetrain: crankset, chain, cassette
4. Wheels and tires - checked for wear, damage, straightness
5. Frame, fork, and components inspected for damage
*Discussion of bicycle condition and recommended services

COST

* $40 for the 1st bicycle
* $30 for each additional bicycle in same appointment
* Visibly damaged or compromised bicycles may have an upcharge

ELIGIBILITY

I can create an estimate to fix, repair, make new, or replace just about any bike. However, that does not guarantee I am authorized or able to perform the work. For instance, a cracked frame would be sent to the manufacturer or someone else for repair.

UPGRADES over...well, doing nothing

You technically still haven't done anything to the bike but at least you know what needs to be done and there's a phat labor credit for 14 days.

NOTES

I can create an estimate to fix, repair, make new, or replace just about any bike. However, that does not guarantee I am authorized or able to perform the work. If it's not a bike I can fix I will tell you before the Assessment.

The fee from each bike can be credited for 14 days towards a Tune-Up or higher service level on that bike. Once an Assessment is performed, set up an appointment to perform the actual work with the goal of same- or next-day turnaround to minimize down time. After all, a three-week wait can be as much as 20% of the prime riding time for the year!
